Creation????

How did we get here?
What was the Big Bang?
Did the creation happen in 6days?
Did we come from bacteria?
Did God create the world?

Anything else?
Over to you........

For a very reformed biblical viewpoint on why young earth creationism is wrong, see this months "the briefing" published in this country by the good book company and probably nigh on impossible to get hold of.

My dad once met an Orthodox Jew at a conference dinner and was speaking to him. He asked him, what was the Orthodox perspective on the Creation story? This guy said that a long time ago, elders of the religion and scholars of the Torah had had a discussion about this. (As is my understanding) they had decided that the story was non-literal, but an illustration, a way for people in ancient days to try and make sense of why we were here. The reasons by which they justified this decision include;
-on the third day God creates "all kinds of plants", including trees. How many rings around the tree's circumference will they have? As they'd just been created you would assume none, so they'd just be saplings, or even seeds..? In that case how can they be able to bear fruit and grain for Adam and Eve to eat just 3 days later?
-it is only on the fourth day that God creates the sun and moon to distinguish between day and night. In that case...how can we measure properly the first 3 days?

I should explain that I definitely do believe God created the universe, but I do not believe that the 6-day story is literal. The amount of evidence that points to evolution and the big bang is overwhelming, in my opinion, and I don't see why evolution and intelligent design have to be in conflict, as one is scientific and the other is clearly not, but based on what people believe.
