Greetings from Kenya!
I’ve not said hello for a little while, not really had the time to sit and write. I’m also about a week behind on my diary too so am having to try and remember what’s been going on so I can tell you.

At the weekend I made it to visit my aunt Catherine in Nairobi. It was a really nice break from the village and I got the chance to catch up with her after possibly around 5years! There was also a little element of reverse culture shock going on staying in a really lovely house for the weekend with TV and real shower after being in the village for 2 months. It was really good to get the chance to talk through everything that I’ve been getting up to with someone who really knows her stuff when it comes to volunteering and projects etc. I’ve come back to COWART to try and organise a project review to look at all the aspects of the project and bring some kind of structure to things. I am busy doing projects but it does feel like I’m not really achieving anything most of the time and I’m mostly chasing Weldon around to try and get him to do things.
It’s really nice having Lucy around we can share English jokes and has brought hugs back to Kenya!

The rain has arrived in force and some days the road home is more like a mud bath than a track. Thank goodness for my walking boots, I seem to be living in them most days.
Quick update on the flea situation, since going to Nairobi and being instructed that everything needed washing (which was very true!) and coming back to avoid the armchairs in the living room (because I suspect that’s where I pick them up) I have not been bitten. Well, technically not true, mosquitoes still seem to like to bite me but not with the frequency of fleas so it’s ok.

Yesterday we started our HIV/AIDS peer education clubs in schools. I went with the three youths who were starting to train Class 8 (oldest primary class) in Kesainet Primary, which is the school very near to our house. It went really well, they were only covering introduction and expectations of the group but the kids really enjoyed it and are looking forward to the next session. I was really impressed with how brave they were in leading the group; it looks like a few future youth workers in the making, very nice to see!

Today I’m off to do my 3rd Recorder lesson in St Clare’s. For those of you who are interested we’ve covered notes B, A, G and C. Today will move onto D and rests whilst learning some basic tunes. I’ve been asked to eventually teach the national anthem so I’ve managed to write it out note by note and just need to learn the real tune now.

Seeing as it’s our birthdays this weekend, Lucy and I are probably going into Kericho to the Tea Hotel for lunch and maybe a walk in the monkey park. Weldon has promised to check the post for me today so I hope there’ll be something for him to pick up :-p

I’ll try to take some more photos to post but I keep forgetting to use the camera so still have no more to put up yet.
Would be lovely to hear news from you about what’s going on at home.
It’s now 10 months until I’ll be back with you all but the past 2 have gone very fast!
